Coming Attractions

Sometimes life gets so full that thoughts are shooting everywhere and you're at a loss to know what to write about.  This, my friends, is one of those times.  So many things to discuss, so little time, but I do want to mention a couple of things that are coming up here in Upper North Lake, Altadena.  Good times ahead:

Wednesday, April 28th at 5:30, Photography By Walt is hosting this month's Chamber of Commerce Mixer.  This is an extra-special event because they're having their Grand Re-Opening ribbon cutting.....come by and wish Walt and Molly good luck (and check out their cool new digs - it's looking pretty hip in there)!  Their new address is 875 E. Mariposa.

Saturday, May 1st is our May Day Festival!  Here's what Altadenablog says: "The Altadena Arts Coalition will be hosting another great community gathering with the May Day Festival coming up next Sat., May 1!
Featured event is the debut of "Abstract: Altadena," a collection of images by local photographers that will be on display in Galloway Alley behind Steve's Bike Shop at Lake and Mariposa. There will also be food available from local eateries, and many North Lake businesses will be open during the event. "Those Manning Boys" will present live music in the alley. Come and enjoy the night in our wonderful community, 5-10 PM!"  Should be a par-tay!

Saturday, May 1st will also be the Grand Opening at our area's newest retailer, Kat Scrap Studio.  They'll be having festivities all through the day, so make sure to drop by and say "welcome".  They're located on the northwest corner of Mariposa and Lake, where Walt's used to be.

Here's something I thought was pretty darn cool.  Blogger Cafe Pasadena honored another of our local community bloggers, Petrea Burchard of Pasadena Daily Photo, in a recent article.  Petrea recently spoke at the Women's City Club about blogging for business and Cafe Pasadena dishes on it here

Another party on the horizon, again courtesy of Cafe Pasadena.  If you're a blogger living in the local vicinity you'll be interested in this, but there's a question that needs to be answered first....what time of day on a Saturday would be better, noontime or after 5:00 p.m.?  You can read about it and answer the question here

Some sad news to relay now.  Fellow blogger (Altadena Above It All and Altadena Daily Photo) and friend, Debbi Swanson's husband, Steve Patrick, passed away Friday afternoon. Scott and I send our prayers and sympathies to her.  Please keep her in your thoughts.

As always, Scott and I wish you a fabulous week (it's my birthday on Wednesday....check our Facebook Fan Page to see what we'll be cooking up)!

Tax Season, Bootcamp and Earth Day

We're back after taking a short hiatus to finish up my presentation for the Business Builders Bootcamp and get our tax return finalized.  Once again I vow to be better organized about it all next year!

My presentation for the Bootcamp class wasn't just the culmination of weeks of Friday classes, it's actually the beginning of our endeavors to improve the North Lake Business District.  The august panel of business leaders in our community who listened to me gave Scott and I some wonderful advice and much to do.  What was encouraging was their collective enthusiasm for our plan.  It's nice to know that I'm not completely out of my tree as I push towards a stronger, more unified center of business here.  When we have all our ducks lined up, I'll publish my oral presentation as a blogpost.

During the past two or so weeks, there's been quite a bit happening at the store.  New items have come in, such as jewelry from local resident (and crew member) Devon Pettengill, adorable plush animals for the kids, books for young and old and some very clever wood sign & bud vase combos that are perfect for Mother's Day!  The most exciting Earth Day celebration has been planned for Thursday, April 22nd, here at the store.  Beginning at 2:30 p.m., noted author, radio personality and local resident Revvell Revati will be here to sign and discuss her new book, Smoothies & Smoozies for Life.  Representatives from the Arroyo Food Co-op will also be here to answer any of your questions, and together, they and Revvell will impart tips and advice on Being Green From The Inside Out.  They'll be here until 6:00 p.m., so make plans to join us for this informative and fun event!

Looking foward to seeing you Thursday and Scott and I wish you all a great week ahead!
